out of character Face Name: Wu Yifan Group/solo: Solo/Actor Journal: ![]() AIM (optional): #eveningwithkris in character Your Name: Wu Yifan, Kris House & Year: Slytherin, 7th Blood Status: Pureblood Classes: Charms, Potions, Transfiguration, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Suimancy, Ancient Runes, Alchemy Extra-Curricular: Prefect, Ancient Studies What are three moments in your childhood life you feel have shaped you?: They say the olfactory senses are the ones the most strongly tied to memory. That the right smell at the right moment can take you back to an instance month, years, decades ago. The smell of cigarette smoke reminds me very strongly of my father, and my father comes clearer to me than my mother does. I remember idolising my father from a young age - he used to work in the Department of International Magical Cooperation as the ambassador from Hong Kong, and there was a certain magic in the way he moved - a kind of magic that didn't require a wand to wield, how he managed to command respect from most of the people he worked with. I envied that, and I wanted it for myself, and when my father noticed it, he took me under his wing. I guess I could say that he and I had a better relationship than most of my peers would have had with their fathers, because he was strict, yes, but he indulged me, taught me everything that I know today. Some day, I will stand next to him as an equal, to prove that he has not taught me in vain. It's important. It's supposed to feel important. Getting to Hogwarts. Getting sorted, having that old hat placed on your head and murmurs in your ears for that moment, the collectively held breaths until the hat announces its decision. Slytherin was the only choice for me. Even before I'd gotten up on that stool, before I'd ridden the boat across the lake to the candlelit shores of the castle, even from the time I was on the Hogwarts Express - I was ambitious enough to know that I belonged to Slytherin, and more importantly, ambitious enough to belong. It's a family legacy of sorts, and I will not be the last in the unbroken line of Slytherins. I suppose this isn't so much a childhood thing, but last year, I was appointed as a prefect. At the same time, my parents saw it fit to announce that they had already made arrangements for my future marriage. I'd always known that the amount of freedom that I had with regards to relationships would be limited, but I hadn't expected for it to be cut off that soon and that... suddenly, I guess? It doesn't help that my fiancee kind of doesn't want anything to do with me, at all. What are three personality traits you feel help define you and why?: Ambitious. I'm not the best student, but I know I've done well enough to be able to land myself a job at the Ministry once I graduate. I guess you could also apply it to the pursuit of knowledge. One of the very few childhood dreams I hold on to still is to have a collection of rare books and artifacts, to be a collector of fine things. Work my way up society and prove that I belong, that it's not just my name that's holding me up. Sociable. I'm good with people. There was a time when I used to prefer books over interacting with people, but since then I've learnt to be able to interact with people. It came with the endless social events that I was forced to attend. I'd like to think that I have a pretty good sense of humour, and besides, being sociable and approachable to the right people gets you places. Control. I'm one of those that fully believe that my own life is in my hands, and some people might call me calculated, I prefer the term "strategic decisions" because the best decisions are the ones that you have control over, and the ones that are going to advance your own position. On a side note, I've been told that I've taken it to extremes before, in the sense that I don't let go of control that easily, and if something's been assigned to me, I would prefer to see it through completely and right to its very end. plotting 1. Fellow Voldemort sympathisers - He's young, impressionable, has a budding interest towards the Dark Arts and one of the reasons why he's probably going to throw his lot in with Voldemort after he graduates from Hogwarts is because his ideals align rather closely with Yifan's own, even though there might be some points that they both disagree on. I'd love for Yifan to come into contact with some other likeminded people, either to get him more invested in the cause or y'know, recruit him to actually become a Death Eater. 2. Any friends and/or enemies - His elitist nature is always going to be a toxic part of his personality. He's made some close allies and burned a couple of bridges while he's at it, and while he's a great friend he's also a rather creative and vindictive enemy. Both sides of the spectrum would be a-mazing. 3. FAMILY LINES - let's face it, Yifan's the son of a very old, very well established Chinese pureblood family, even though right now he's based in England. He's definitely met and gotten around with interacting with most of the other socially acceptable pureblood families, and is probably distantly distantly related to some of them. I'd like to explore all these obscure family relations as in "wait we're actually cousins what / yeah fourth cousins twice removed / huh" kind of shenanigans. 4. Struggling with Responsibility - He's barely out of school, and he's at that age where he feels stuck between carefree youthfulness and the responsibility that comes with maturity. Especially in a time of political turmoil, and the fact that he has a fiancee that he totally Did Not Sign Up For. He's pretty good at making it seem like his life is put together, but hey, if someone could get at the cracks in that facade, it would make for an interesting dynamic. 5. Different Strokes for Different Folks - As far as Yifan is concerned, he puts in quite a bit of effort to make sure that his social circle is very contained. The upper, privileged elite of society. He needs to branch out. To interact with people who are anathema to him (either to his ideals or his personality). Preferably against his will, preferably with tons of conflict. That said, we're open to any and all kind of plots! I have a super detailed profile for Yifan here which you can read if you want to find out about what makes him tick. Best method of contact really is a comment on this post, or a request for a custom post that we can spam things back and forth on. I'm also contactable on AIM, but I keep odd hours and therefore it's easier to catch me by the other methods. I prefer scening by threads! |
